Our favorite control room monitors for recording, playback and mixing – the JBL’s LSR4300 – won the Studio Monitor Technology Award. We can still recall the first time we mounted this pair and thought – hmmm, they look small – or the first time we hooked the RMC microphones and performed the RMC process – then it was LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN.

The LSR4300 Series brings its acclaimed RMC Room Mode Correction monitors to a new price point and adds new features. The 6-inch woofer LSR4326P and 8-inch LSR4328P use HiQnet networking, allowing all speakers to be controlled from the mix position via included software or a wireless remote. Parameters include global volume control, mute, solo and input switching from analog or 24-bit/96kHz digital sources. Speaker front baffles include a meter display and illuminated controls for all user functions.

Digidesign ProTools 7 won the Best Workstation Technology Award is the heart and soul of Sound Weavers recording studio. As the recording, mixing and playback software and system – it is very stable, easy to use and best of all – offers outstanding sound quality. You can bet that good sounds coming in will be good sounds coming out.

Waves SSL4000 series won in the Signal Processing Technology/Software category of 2006 TEC – and I must say – it truly deserves that Award. I haven’t worked on an Solid State Logic (SSL) desk or gear before – did not have the budget then, don’t have the budget now – not even for an AWS900. Nevertheless, I was floored the first time I used the Waves SSL4000 Channel strip, Waves SSL 4000 Compressor and Waves SSL4000 EQ (equalizer) – such transparency and depth of field – this bunch of plugins found a lot of use in the studio even for tracking! The SSL EQ is still my go to EQ for both challenging tracks as well as for subtle tone shaping tasks.

developed under license from Solid State Logic, the Waves SSL 4000 Collection includes three state-of-the-art plug-ins: the SSL-E Channel, the SSL-G Compressor and the SSL-G Equalizer. To faithfully re-create the SSL sound, Waves engineers spent more than a year analyzing and modeling the distinctive sonic characteristics of SL 4000 factory reference consoles provided by Solid State Logic. Extensive testing reveals that the Waves SSL 4000 plug-ins sound virtually indistinguishable from the original console components.
